About
Keeping Torah in circulation.
Torah that was said, or written, or once printed, and is now out of reach. We bring it into permanent form, and keep it in circulation.
וְלֹא יָמוּשׁוּ מִפִּיךָ וּמִפִּי זַרְעֲךָ
Yeshayahu 59:21
Why MePihem
MePihem, "from their mouths". Torah has always been spoken first. The Mishnah was taught by heart for generations before Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi wrote it down, because Torah in exile could not survive on memory alone. The Gemara, the Zohar, the Tanya: each began as a teacher speaking to talmidim.
Today more Torah is spoken than at any time in history, and almost all of it is recorded. Very little of it becomes a sefer. The recordings sit in folders and on websites; the rav has no time to write; and a recording, however many people hear it this year, is not what a grandchild takes from a shelf.
What we do
We work with rabbanim to bring their Torah to the page and to the shelf, in their own words. Sometimes that means finding the sefer inside years of shiurim. Sometimes it means reading a manuscript honestly before a publisher does, or setting a sefer that went out of print so it can be printed again.
Two things hold all of it together: the sefer must be the rav's own, so that he can claim every word; and every source in it must hold up when a learned reader opens the text.
Who we are
MePihem is a Torah-editorial press of Orensa Group GmbH in Switzerland, working with rabbanim wherever they teach, in English, Hebrew and Yiddish. Our sister house, Yampolsky's, keeps the seforim in print and on sale.
