I have a finished manuscript

From a manuscript to a sefer.

Your text is written and approved. Everything between a Word file and a sefer someone can buy is ours: typesetting, cover, ISBN, print files and a place on the shelf.

What production includes

Everything around the text.

Typesetting

Set as a sefer, not a document: לשון הקודש right to left with proper nikud, English with Hebrew pesukim in place, bilingual pages, running heads and chapter openers.

The apparatus

Footnotes on the page that cites them, a one-column body over a two-column apparatus where a sefer calls for it, and indexes generated from the typeset pages themselves.

Haskamos & front matter

Haskamos reproduced as facsimiles of the original letters beside their typeset text, title page, dedications and contents.

The cover

Designed for the shelf it will stand on, or matched to the earlier volumes of a series so the set stands together.

ISBN & print files

An ISBN and barcode, and print files prepared to each press's own measured specification: bleed, ink, the extent padded to the signature. A file a printer can print, not just one that opens.

On sale

Printed on demand in one copy or a thousand, and listed at Yampolsky's, with the author keeping his rights.

Two recent commissions

For press, to the press's specification.

Chizuk · for an established frum publisher

A publisher-accepted sefer, set for print

An 83,000-word Word manuscript became a typeset sefer, through the publisher's own proofreading cycle, approved by its editor-in-chief and closed for print.

  • 347 typeset pages
  • 154 footnotes, each on the page that cites it
  • 8 haskamos reproduced from the letters
  • 7 rounds of page proofs, 931 marks, each applied or answered in writing

Machshava · לשון הקודש · for a machon

Two volumes of a series, for print

Volume two came as five separate documents, each numbering its own footnotes from one. They became a single sefer with one apparatus and three indexes, and both volumes went to press.

  • 401 numbered pages in volume two, 207 in volume one
  • 823 footnotes in one run, verified mark against note
  • 188 · 64 · 170 entries in three indexes
  • Cover rebuilt from a scan of an earlier volume
